Yarn Review: Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend

Get my thoughts and feelings on the soft and sumptuous comfy cotton blend from Lion Brand Yarn.

Hi Knitters! I just finished my latest Cora Cowl in a yarn that’s brand new to me. I was walking the isles of my Joann Fabrics and found Lion Brand’s Comfy Cotton Blend on one of the end caps. At first I was a bit leery as some cottons can be a bit rough. But I rolled it over in my hands. I held it up to my face (admit it, we all do some kind of softness test when yarn shopping). It passed the test.

The skeins were $7.99 a piece, but they pack a whopping 392 yards of this cotton and polyester blend. So I decided to grab some for a few knitted Christmas gifts this year.

Since I’m gifting these items, another thing that I look for are the wash and care instructions. I hate gifting a busy mom something that she has to hand wash and block. Lion Brand’s Comfy Cotton Blend is machine washable and dryer safe. So I’m confident that the intended recipient can wear this to her hearts content and be able to clean it up whenever she needs to.

Hurray for bright bold colors on a dreary day!

I’m also a fan of the colors in these cakes. They’re very coordinated and well balanced. They are also well diffused throughout the cake so they look great when they’re knitted up. Sometimes a skein, hank, or cake looks great, but when you start knitting, it’s just not what you had imagined.

This yarn sheds minimally as you work with it. You will get some fibers on your clothing, but you won’t come away looking like the abominable bumble. And there were a minimal amount of miss spins or knots per cake which was also a plus.

My only downside to this yarn was that as you work with it, some of the strands tend to separate a bit. This doesn’t cause any actual problems, and it generally works itself out as you knit.

This yarn is categorized as a number 3 or light yarn. I’d say it’s just a tad shy of worsted weight.
