We’re Moving!
Well We Will Be Moving! As Soon As Our Home Is Finished!
We’re in the process of packing up our home, which obviously includes all of my craft stuff. And we’re moving a little bit further north to a small town heaping with character and charm. This is such an exciting update for our lives.
Needless to say there have been and will continue to be some disruptions in my crafting and blogging schedule. But on the upside, we’ll have a lot more house to DIY and decorate! I already tried crocheting a rug out of macrame chording. You might have seen some of those updates on my instagram.
First Failed Home Project
One of the projects that got me started on this crafting and fiber journey was crocheting rugs. I worked with the Weavers Guild in Harmony PA. The little cabin that they occupied had a whole bunch of bolt ends (the edge pieces of large reams/bolts of fabric that had been cut off). They didn’t know what to do with these at the time, so I tried my hand at crocheting them into rugs. It was fun and they turned out really well. Being the selvedge edges they held up pretty well too.
So I thought why not try it for our entry way or master bathroom, both of which we don’t currently have in our home. I ordered some macrame chording and got started. It was going awesome! But then somewhere along the line, the pattern that I had worked out grew too wide too fast and the rug warped.
I tried washing it. But that didn’t work. In fact, the rug changed color in the wash. That made really frustrated with the project and I tried throwing it away. My husband who is always my cheerleader tried to talk me into keeping it, but there’s not salvaging this one.
Projects to Finish Up Now that We’re Moving
We have a few projects around here to finish up before we list our house. One of those projects is making curtains for the basement which is my office/craft room. I’ve started on these with an adorable fabric that I had in my stash. I’ll post an update with how I’m planning to make these and whether I’m able to do it myself.
Who knows! If these go really well, I might make some of the curtains in our new house! That would really help save money but also give me much more creative control over our home decor.
In addition to making curtains, I also have been sewing and knitting up a storm. I’m trying to work through some of my materials so that we don’t have to move them. I’ve made some Christmas baby bibs, matching large dog bibs, and even some dog bone shaped ornaments! I’ve cut a bunch more heart shaped ornaments but haven’t had time to sew them yet. Oh, and there are some matching Christmas PJ’s and other projects in the works too!
