This pattern offers a lovely, vintage inspired velvet Christmas Tree Skirt that will soften any tree stand and create the perfect perch for presents. I love knitted Christmas decorations, and so far this is one of my absolute favorites. I love it so much, that I’m making a new version of this pattern now!

When it comes to gifting, these homemade ornaments, wine bottle sweaters, and velvet Christmas tree skirts would make Santa proud.

Vintage Velvet Christmas Tree Skirt Pattern Info

 This pattern has been updated to feature two different knitting options for the first half of the skirt: the original flat, and now, in the round.

The flat versions of the skirt is knit back and forth in rows to make it easy to remove and replace, for when your tree (real or fake) decides to drop some of its needles.  

But if you’re more of a set it and forget it kind of a decorator, the in the round version will allow you to simply pop the skirt over the tree stand. Then you can finish setting up your tree and enjoy the holidays!

The edge of the tree is worked back and forth as a border. It both binds off the live stitches and adds horizontal cables running around the base of the tree and edge of the skirt.  

This is designed to be easy to follow as well as easy to knit.  There are other patterns with more complexity, which is sure to equal more frustration. Unless, that is, you’re a highly skilled knitted with loads of patience and time.  This skirt was designed for my own tree, and my own schedule (which is quite filled).

Specs and Technical Details

Size: Laid underneath the tree and wrapped around the base/stand this tree skirt will measure about 43-44 inches. 

Yarn: Bernat Velvet Yarn from Yarnspirations. (Number 5 or bulky weight yarn) 3 skeins – almost on the dot. 

Needle: 2 Size US 10 circular needles (one can be much shorter), Double Pointed or Cable Needle.

Other Tools: 9 Stitch Markers, Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 12 STS X 17 Rows = 4 inches

Care Instructions: Hand wash and lay flat to dry.  This being a tree skirt, you hopefully won’t have to do much washing it.  The yarn is not stretchy so there is no need for blocking it.

Note: While knitting, I would recommend knitting the yarn tails into the project as this can be a bit tough to see when sewing the ends in.
