Tracks in the Snow Mini Christmas Tree Skirt
My knitted Christmas tree skirts are hands down my most popular patterns. Currently I offer two full size and one mini tree skirt pattern. These can be customized pretty easily to fit your exact needs. This year, I’ve added a few mini trees to my holiday decor and love how they add to our space. But every tree needs a skirt and my mind has been whirling with pattern ideas.
I’m offering the Tracks in the Snow Mini Christmas Tree Skirt knitting pattern for free! The world needs more cheer right now and what’s better than making something for the holidays as a crafter? This tree skirt requires some basic skills like knitting in the round, increases, and floats. However, the instructions are all written out and designed to be as clear as possible. After a few rounds, you may even gain the confidence to customize the pattern!
Let’s talk about what you need to get started!
Tools for Tracks in the Snow
You’ll need a super bulky or chunky yarn. I chose Knit and Crochet Alpaca. Its 130 yards per skein and it took just over two. So I’m going to call it at, 300 yards of the yarn of your choice.
For this yarn, I like a US Size 10 needle. I get started with double pointed needles. As the tree skirt starts to take shape, I switch to a 16inch circular. And then I size up to an even longer needle as the tree skirt grows in circumference.
This pattern has 10 sections. In every section you increase one stitch, every other round. So 10 stitch markers help to keep track of this. You’ll want one unique one to denote the beginning/end of the round. As long as you continue working the increases in every other round, you can easily customize this pattern. Add garter stitch section, or use the andalusian knitting pattern to add a bit of texture, add bobbles, the choices are endless!

Additional Skills Required:
RLI or Right Lifted Increase: identify the next stitch on your left hand needle. Go down one row/round. Pick up the right side of this stitch, and place it on your needle. Knit this stitch, and the stitch above it for a right leaning increase.
Vikkel Braid: This creates a horizontal cable around the circumference of your Christmas tree skirt. Click here for step by step tutorial. You can also simply purl the entire row here for a garter ridge instead of working this cable.
