The Wedding Update
It’s about time to share some of our photos!
Since the wedding, which happened back in April, we’ve been in a whirlwind of spending time with family, working on the house and trying to make time for each other…and all of my projects. For those who don’t know me, I’m a small business owner, run a charitable project, and this loverly little blog.
Our wedding was at the church in which I grew up, Saint Richard Parish in Gibsonia. As a little girl and altar server, I would try to envision what it would look like. Even though I could never quite see it, I know it had to be there. And how was I to know that the man of my dreams would hail from Germany and that we would host a Bavarian themed wedding?
The church is so beautiful and it was right after Easter, so we didn’t bring in many flowers. We also needed to clean up before the next mass so we opted to forgo the bows/flowers on the end of the pews and let the beauty of the sanctuary speak for itself. My cousin Lynn cantered and played the flute for us. Ugh it was perfect.
Before the church was built, we used to attend mass in a chapel at a nearby retirement home, Saint Barnabas. My mom loved it because there were pews right along either side of the altar, so as kids, we had to behave. She also, and rightly so, loved how close we could be to the mass, it almost felt like we were a part of it. Later we would become more involved and a part of it, but for those moments, it was a sweet gift.
My two nieces were my lovely flower girls and my cousin Nora, and first friend in life was my maid of honor. I can’t tell you how honored I was to have her at my side. As a newly minted pediatrician, this woman has one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen.
We had the most gorgeous bouquets from Weischedel Florist in Gibsonia. They were there with us until we walked down the isle, to make sure the flowers were their freshest. They helped pin on the boutonniere and everything. I highly recommend them. PS that’s the sash from my mother’s dress wrapped around my bouquet.
My Dad, the person to whom I was closest to in life before my husband, was there to walk me down the isle. We were both nervous and didn’t want to cry so it turned into one of the more brisk walks I’ve ever taken. That’s my mom tearing up in the foreground.
Mary has been a big figure in my life. In times of trouble, I grab my rosary and say a decade. I’m not the best when it comes to praying the whole thing, or exploring the mysteries – joyous, sorrowful or luminous. But she’s been the rock I look to for advice and comfort. Becoming a wife, I prayed to her a lot along this journey, so we chose to honor her and pray at her statue for those gathered to celebrate with us.
Here’s me explaining the whole thing to my nieces – the older of the two is my God Child.
Though Father Mike will only be with us for a short period of time, we were so blessed to have him officiate our wedding. He’s young, energetic, extremely knowledgable on theology and able to translate it into our modern lives. He was great and made Chris and myself feel at ease standing in front of everyone and before God. That’s a feat! The ceremony was so beautiful.
I’m at a loss for words on these now. I hope you enjoy them.
