I’m thrilled to be able to offer this pattern again. Previously, I had launched this pattern in a very, well it was a word doc with a logo slapped on it. Now this pattern is revamped, and available in my new pattern design. This makes the pattern easy to read and follow. And it just looks so much better. The pattern does I mean. This sweater is the same great design that’s made it popular!

What Makes the Plain Jane Special:

The yoke of this sweater is circular, which means that there is no shaping involved. Simply cast on your stitches and join in the round. Then you’re ready to go. It’s best to start off with a short circular needles like these 16 inch circulars. If you need to later on you can size up to a longer circular needle after the second section of increases.

You’ll need a few stitch markers for this pattern, at least four. These will help break the two sleeves, as well as the front and back of the sweater into easy to work with sections. You’ll use different increases in the front of the sweater and in the back of the sweater to achieve the signature look of this knitting pattern.

What you’ll need to knit the Plain Jane pattern

Skills:

There are a few skills in this pattern that might be new to a fair portion of knitters. I’ve used the Right and Left Lifted Increases and the Make One Right and Left Increases to give this sweater yoke a beautiful yet simple line.

Yarn:

The pattern calls for 720-900 yards of worsted weight yarn and uses a US size 9 or 5.5 MM circular needle and DPNs for the sleeves. I’ve used both Lion Brand Heartland and Premier Yarns anti-pilling everyday worsted. If you select Lion Brand Heartland, that’s about 2-3 skeins, and if you select Premier yarns that’s about 4-5 skeins.

Other Tools:

As it’s a sweater, you’ll also need spare yarn or stitch holders to keep your stitches safe until it’s time to knit the sleeves.

Stitch holders can be a good investment but if you’re new to sweaters, try using a bit of yarn you don’t need for another project. Just cut a section, thread your tapestry needle, and then use the needle to thread the sleeve stitches. Knot this wast yarn and you can cut it when you need to pick these stitches back up later.
