The Milkmaid’s Shawl

Inspired by the long braided cable and a dash of nostalgia

It’s now available for download! This shawl has been a blast to knit. It’s made from one of my go to yarns from KnitPicks. It’s a gorgeous color. And it’s a fun and easy pattern to work. I’ve fallen in love with milkmaid braids – the combination of easy to do meets you look like you actually got dressed that morning. So when I started the horizontal braids in this shawl, the image just kind of stuck. Enter the Milkmaid’s Shawl.

The shape and the drape of this shawl remind me of the colonial type shawls and capelets that covered women’s shoulders and allowed their wearer the ability to move their arms around to complete household chores. It’s just an image that I’ve grown fond of over the years for some reason.

The Milkmaid’s Shawl was designed for my lovely mother – who wears what I make her almost everyday. It’s almost her birthday and it’s time for a new shawl. My momma lives in the mountains in southwestern Pennsylvania. They’re super lush and breezy, so it’s nice to have a good shawl on hand. I can see her sipping her morning coffee in this shawl already. I’m so excited to give her this one, I don’t even care that she’s probably going to read this and like my instagram posts before I get it to her.

Yarn for the MilkMaid’s Shawl

I’ve used the Knit Picks Mighty Stitch, worsted weight yarn. The color for this particular shawl is Oyster, but they have lots of fabulous colors to choose from.

Here’s my review video of this yarn.
