The Fisherman’s Wife
Using a Rib in the Round to create something fit for the Fisherman’s Wife
Not too long ago, I knit a cowl in fisherman’s rib, in the round. The texture was really quite beautiful and I became enamored with it. Since that pattern, I’ve had designs to work this stitch into other projects. The Fisherman’s Wife was just the perfect pattern. A simple design that displays the beauty of Fisherman’s Rib. As this is the featured part of the pattern, the name should be fitting and thus we came upon The Fisherman’s Wife.
The Fisherman’s Wife Pattern overview:
Necessary Skills: Knitting 1 Below and Purling 1 Below.
Essential to the fisherman’s rib pattern, this pattern requires you to knit into the stitch, one round below and inversely, purl into the stitch one round below. These skills look harder than they are to do, and with a little practice, you’ll be flying through this section of the pattern. Alternating these skills in every other row will enable you to knit the fisherman’s rib in the round.
If you haven’t yet learned these two stitches, don’t fret! After a couple of repeats, you’ll have this down pat!
