Get the Apres Ski Hat for Babies through Toddlers 3 years of age

The Apres Ski Hat for Babes is a sweet little hat that boasts four different sizes. The hat features written instructions rather than charts, and is very easy to knit.

This pattern has recently received some love. The pattern used to be arranged in more of a “choose your own adventure” style, but now the instructions for each size are written out from cast on to bind off to make it even easier to follow.

One of the reasons why I love this hat is that it’s an adult hat shrunken for babies and toddlers. There’s something about jeans on a baby or a knitted hat made just for them that is adorable beyond words. When we put this hat on Fynn at the hospital, everyone who came into the room from the nurses to the audiologists, just gushes.

Follow the step by step instructions for an adorable little hat!

What you need to Knit the Hat:

For Newborns: A partial skein up to a skein of worsted weight yarn depending on the size of the hat you choose to knit. For this newborn size hat, I needed just a fraction of a full skein of Premier Yarn’s Anti Pilling Marled worsted weight yarn. If you don’t put a pompom on the hat, you can pop this baby in the washer and dryer – which makes it ideal for baby knits!

For 3-6 months and up: I’d work with a full skein of yarn just to make sure that you have enough, especially if you want a yarn pompom to adorn the hat,

I’ve used Premier anti-pilling yarns. Get the yarn here.

Needles:

For Newborns and 3-6 months: US Size Five or 3.5mm Double Pointed Needles or a longer Circular needle for magic loop.

For 6-12 months and 12 months – 3 years: shorter US Size five or 3.5mm short Circular Needle.

You’ll also want a DPN or cable needle in a similar size for working the cables. Cables for the Apres Ski Hat work in sets of four stitches. IE you’ll bring four stitches to the front, and then knit four and then knit the four you’ve been holding at the front of the hat.
