Snowy White Christmas Tree Skirt Knitting Pattern
Give Your Christmas Tree a Little Love this Year and for Many More to Come with a Knitted Tree Skirt!
Pattern Update: I’ve included three digital patterns in this purchase. One pattern is designed for live Christmas Trees as they have a thicker trunk. Two are designed for artificial trees (like the one I have). One is worked flat and the other is worked in the round.
Also, the pattern can be easily customized per your specific tree and sizing needs. Simply knit the first section of the pattern for a shorter or longer section than the pattern recommends.
Original Post:
Last year I made a grey Christmas Tree Skirt out of faux velvet yarn and the pattern was really popular. So this year, I decided to try it again, but with a bit of a twist. And the result: The Snowy White Christmas Tree Skirt Knitting Pattern!
This pattern is just beautiful under your tree. The simple lines combined with the beautiful yarn allow your knitting to really shine. Personally, I love the white, because it will look great with any tree – but it will also go with any wrapping paper scheme. This means it will look even better with presents underneath the tree!
Or, if you’re a fan of the Creche beneath your tree, this white will provide the perfect backdrop for your nativity scene. Personally, my dog Murphy would continuously knock over every one and I’m worried he might even eat the baby Jesus…so we put ours up on a credenza.
The Choice is Yours with the Snowy White Christmas Tree Skirt Pattern:
The original Vintage Velvet Tree Skirt had a traveling cable which looked great. I did feel that it might have gotten lost a bit in the texture of the yarn. It’s one of the main reasons I switched up the recommended yarn for this pattern. We’ll get to that in a bit.
This year, I wanted to try something a bit more traditional. I think I achieved the goal I had set out to accomplish.
You can choose to knit the tree skirt flat, which is great for removal and shaking off the fallen needles. Or you can choose to knit it in the round for something that stays put a bit better.
The recommended yarn for this pattern is Hygge by Red Heart (Yarnspirations). It comes in a variety of colors but I just love this warm cream color.
Notes for the “in the round” option:
If you’re knitting this in the round, you’ll need a few different needle options in US size 10: Double pointed needles, a small circular and a large circular needle. It starts off with a small 2 inch hole for your tree “trunk” to fit through which means you’ll need to start with DPNs and work from the center out.
Note: If you decorate with a real tree for Christmas, you might need to cast on a few more stitches in the beginning for a larger diameter hole. I’m happy to work with you on this one – just shoot me an email once you know what size tree trunk with which you’re working.
You can purchase the pattern here from Ravelry.
Here’s a video tutorial on how to join the border of the tree skirt to the body. It also features instructions for the first & second rows of the Vintage Velvet Tree Skirt border.
