Snowdrifts Hat Pattern

Get the Pattern for Free Here

The snow flurries have started here in Western Pennsylvania and our local ski resort is threatening to open this weekend…that means it’s been consistently cold enough for them to make snow.  Translation, winter is coming – so why not get ready for it with a fun new hat pattern that is anything but ordinary?

Normally I’m not a fan of the Purl stitch, I mean, it’s OK here and there, but when working with it consistently…I don’t know but I’m not a fan.  Or I wasn’t, until now.  I found a way to embrace the purl stitch in a new hat pattern.  The Snowdrifts Hat pattern was inspired by the popular new technique of adding ridges as a pop of texture and making traditional knitted items more interested.  Rather than a one or even a three row ridge, I went big for this hat, to create the feeling of an actual snowdrift.

This hat is worked with worsted weight yarn on a small (US Size 2) needle, to give it a tight woven and warm feeling.  The kids size uses just a skein of yarn and depending on your sizing for the adult hat, can use up to 1 and 1/2 skeins of yarn.  Pick your favorite yarn, in your favorite color and prep for winter, with the Snow Drifts Hat Pattern from your friend at Knitting in the Park.

Yarn

Kids Hat: 1 Skein of any worsted weight yarn of your choosing- making this also a great stash buster!. I’ve selected a cotton and acrylic blend for this hat as it’s great for kids and holds up well. Caring for this hat is easy. It’s machine washable and you can tumble it dry on low heat settings.

Adult Small: 1 ½ skeins of any worsted weight yarn of your choosing.

 Gauge: 18 STS X 24 rows = 4”X4”
