Knitted Pumpkins are Popping Up Everywhere

Makers are gearing up for Fall with handmade pumpkins, and of course, I am no exception. One of the reasons I love our home in Pennsylvania is having all four seasons. Each is glorious, but every year Fall has a special place in my heart. From the crisp temps to nature’s spectacular colors, this is one beautiful season. Of course this woman is girl is crazy for gourds…specifically pumpkins. Around this time of year, my house practically turns into a pumpkin patch. Much to my husbands bewilderment, real and faux pumpkins take over our sweet little home. Perhaps he deals with it because it makes me happy. He still doesn’t really understand the obsession though.

Pumpkin Spicing Things Up

In the past, I’ve had so much fun making these velvet pumpkins with cinnamon stick stems. You can find my super simple pattern for the medium sized faux velvet pumpkins here. This year I’m (pumpkin) spicing things up a bit. I’m mixing in different sized gourds and stacking them. The color combinations are so much fun. This year, I’m also switching up the yarns. Yes, there are still loads of faux velvets in my craft room but I’m adding in some reclaimed polyester, acrylics, wools, etc.

Also new this year, I came up with a fun way to sew small pumpkins. First I started by looking at how the ridges of a pumpkin were shaped and drew up ways that I could achieve this with fabric. Then I made a test pumpkin and I loved it. So now, I’m thinking about trying some different sizes too.

Man I’m gonna need more poly fill…

Fall Is Good for the Soul

More than just pumpkins, knitting, and delectable goodies, Fall is good for me. I’ve been finding it a bit hard to protect and maintain my creative energy with everything that is unfolding. It turns out, all I really needed with a literal change of the season. Now my hands can’t keep up with my brain. The Pumpkin Patch is expanding!

This year, I have finished pumpkins available for purchase. I’m adding new patterns. And you’ll find new videos and tutorials popping up on my YouTube and blog. This is going to be a busy and wonderful time of year.
