From chilly fall days to the cold of winter, baby hats are adorable. Adult hats aren’t so bad either! They also can be really fun to knit. This hat is no exception. The Chevron Hat for Babies is a quick and easy knitting pattern. The instructions are fully written out with no charts. It creates a soft and warm hat that is durable. Because let’s face it, babies pull everything off again and again.

The chevrons are just a fun feature that looks more complex than it really is. You can easily customize the size or the height of these cables. If you need to adjust the size of the hat, you can simply add purls in between the cables. I love chevrons on a hat, especially for a more masculine style hat. Initially this pattern was designed for my husband. When my son came along, I wanted to make something so that they could match.

What you need to knit the Chevron Hat

The yarn that I’ve selected for this pattern is machine washable and dry-able making it super easy to keep it clean – which is essential for babies. The pompom is designed to be detachable to ensure that you can wash it.

Needles for this hat are a US size five circular needle or same size DPNs. This hat is big enough that a fixed or interchangeable circular needle for hats should work without the stitches being too stretched. You’ll also need a cable needle, spare DPN, or something to hold stitches for the cables.
