Description

Add a Bit of Cozy to your Christmas with the Celtic Christmas Tree Skirt!

Don’t let the complex cable pattern fool you, the Celtic Christmas Tree Skirt is so much fun to knit. This pattern features easy to understand directions featuring common abbreviations. These abbreviations are also fully defined in the pattern notes sections with instructions for how to work the various skills. In fact, once you work through a few of the cable repeats, you’ll be flying in no time!

My other Christmas Tree Skirt knitting patterns are larger and fuller circles. Growing up we always had a town and train underneath our tree and I am excited to bring that tradition back with this shorter tree skirt. If you like to decorate underneath or around your tree, stash presents here, this shorter tree skirt is a wonderful option!

What You Need to Knit the Celtic Christmas Tree Skirt

You’ll need between 690 and 805 yards of an aran weight yarn. The color and fiber content is really up to you. I find that for decorations, when you don’t want to spend a ton of money, something like PaintBox Yarns Simply Aran is a great option. However, if you want this to be an heirloom and use a more natural or higher quality fiber the choice is most definitely yours!

Because Aran weight yarn is a thicker yarn, you’ll want to use a needle size that will match. I found that for the Paintbox Yarns, a US size 8 needle did the trick. You’ll need DPNs to start with if you are working in the round. For both flat and in the round patterns I love to use circular needles to knit. It helps distribute the weight of your larger products. In this case, you’ll need two. One longer one for the body of the Christmas Tree skirt, and one shorter needle to knit the border. I’ll explain why in just a minute.

Construction Notes:

Once you knit the body of the tree skirt, you won’t bind off your stitches. Instead, you’ll break your working yarn and grab a shorter needle to cast on the border of the tree skirt. Then, as you work the border, you’ll knit the last stitch of the border together with a stitch from the body of the tree skirt to attach the border ass you knit it. The instructions are fully written in out in the pattern to avoid guess work. You can reach me by email or on social media for pattern support as welll.
