The Baby Esme Hat

An adorable chunky knit hat shrunk to the perfect size for newborns, babies, and toddlers. Made with chunky weight yarn, and US Size Eight knitting needles, this hat is perfect for your littles. It’s super soft and delicate. The cables are easy to knit, and the pattern just flies. The overall pattern is pretty simple, yet pretty. This makes the hat beautiful as the pattern and the yarn compliment each other rather than compete. The pattern calls for the perfect yarn which is soft and delicate which will treat your little one’s sensitive skin with care.

Add a pompom to the top of your hat by using a button adds a bit of removable bit of fun and flair.

As with all of my patterns, the cable instructions are not charted. You can find them fully explained in the pattern notes section.  They are also abbreviated but listed step by step in the pattern itself. This means that if you’ve never worked a braided cable, you don’t have to sweat it!

What You’ll Need

Yarn: You’ll need one skein of Luxe Angel Hair Yarn by Knit and Crochet. You can find a link to it at Joann Fabrics here.

Needles: US Size Eight Double Pointed Needles or Circulars. For the newborn and baby sizes you can use a longer circular in the magic circle technique.  A double pointed needle or cable needle is needed to work the cables.

A darning or tapestry needle will help you weave in the ends once you finish knitting the hat. And a Stitch marker helps to mark the beginning of a new round. You can opt for more stitch markers to mark the pattern repeats but I find that this just complicates the overall project.
