New Sweater Dress In the Works
The Plain Jane will soon be available in a dress!
My first sweater pattern, the Plain Jane, is being test knit as you read this. While my test knitters stitch away on that pattern, I’m knitting through turning this into a fun tunic style sweater dress. It’s the same simple but sweet pattern, just in a sweater dress!
You can view photos and learn more about the Plain Jane in the call for testers that I published here.
What’s so great about the Plain Jane?
This sweater pattern is simple, but the end result doesn’t look overly simple. In fact, I’ve gotten really positive feedback by knitters and muggles alike on this one. The trick is in the “yoke” of the sweater. The increases are placed in a different position and worked a bit uniquely, for an interesting but easy to knit detail.
The front of the sweater has this swooping line that forms the sleeves, and it actually takes the stitches in a different direction. It’s a pretty sweet effect, but it’s easy to do with Make One Lefts and Make One Rights.
What’s the Sweater Dress like?
So the neckline is the same as the Plain Jane Sweater, but a little bit after you separate the sleeves onto stitch holders and join the sweater under the arms, the sweater dress uses the same Make One Lefts and Make One Rights to increase the number of stitches and create a loose dress body.
Previously I had knit this in a yarn by Lion Brand. This time around I’m using Premier Worsted Everyday Solids. I love the soft feel of the yarn combined with the easy care (you can just toss it in the washing machine).
Wish me luck and hope that I don’t end up on Sleeve Island as I try to finish this pattern soon. I’ll have some testing slots available for this pattern as well.
