Over $800 Donated to Knitters During the Corona Virus Outbreak

Doing what we can to help out during this outbreak.

So much is unknown right now. There is a lot to worry about. And many are finding it hard to stay home and stay sane. Negativity abounds right now. There are glimmers of hope. Positive things are happening. People are coming together while remaining apart. People are donating what they have. Others are stepping up to make what is needed. I’ve donated $800 worth of knitting patterns to help people stay entertained during this quarantine.

Donating Knitting Patterns: Knitting in the Park donated over $800 worth of patterns during the corona virus outbreak.

Why Donate Knitting Patterns?

Knitting patterns, it doesn’t seem that important. I know, I get that. My husband is an ICU nurse who just left his 1 month old baby to go back to work and care for the sick people. He’s doing what he is trained and equipped to do. What am I trained and equipped to do? What can I give?

I can’t sew to make more masks for people. I can’t don scrubs and make a difference for the sick and suffering. However, I can give knitting patterns to help people stay at home, stay productive, and stay happy.

Donating Knitting Patterns to Alleviate Stress

If you knit, you know that it reduces stress. In fact, it reduces stress better for us better than almost any other thing. For me, its so much of an addiction that not doing is causes stress. Recognizing that I’m not alone in this, I made the decision to give away knitting patterns: $852 worth of patterns.

Is $852 a lot of money? For my family, it is. In uncertain times, we tighten our belts and reduce our spending. My day job is in marketing. Marketing is often the first thing cut in uncertain times. We don’t know what my job security looks like right now. Right now, I’m okay, but many people aren’t. Restaurant workers, bus drivers, cashiers/retail associates, there are so many people who don’t have a job right now. If I can help them, gift them something, I want to.

This is what we’ve done up to now through two Ravelry.com promotions. We may make the decision to give away more, but we need to talk through what our family needs to do right now.
