On My Needles: Ridgeline Baby Blanket
The latest baby blanket pattern, the Ridgeline is in the works!
A few ideas for new baby blankets have been rattling around in my brain. I haven’t made a new one in a while, so I thought I’d take a stab at one of them. The Ridgeline is the latest baby blanket from Knitting in the Park. I’ve been planning on launching this one for free for a while but recent events have solidified that decision.
What makes the Ridgeline Baby Blanket Special?
While I do love a beautiful heirloom baby blanket, the simple blankets are still my favorite. They’re a joy to knit. They look great. And babies love them. This new blanket uses a combination of garter stitch and stockinette stitch to create a simple yet sweet blanket that will be great for just about any baby!
What do you need to knit this blanket?
I’m designing this blanket for worsted weight yarn and using a US size 8 knitting needle. Specifically, I am using Paintbox Yarns which you can easily order in blanket quantities from their website in a wide range of great colors for kids. As I am not yet finished with the blanket, I do not yet have specific yardage recommendations.
Stitch markers are optional for this project. I am not currently using them, but they could come in useful. I’d recommend 2 -4 if you are a fan of using these handy little tools (that help avoid counting stitches on either side of the blanket).
Knit the blanket alongside me!
Yes, I’m not done yet. And yes, I normally wait until I finish a project to share the pattern. But if you want to take a shot at a fun project to knit this summer, you can start it now!
Grab your needle and cast on between 150 and 200 Stitches. I cast on 200.
The first stitch of each row is slipped Purl-Wise (with Yarn in front). In the pattern notes I shorten this description to “Slip 1 Stitch”.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 eight times
Repeat these sections until the blanket is almost a square.
Work the Internal Stockinette Border again. Then, work the garter border again.
Bind Off
Use the knitted stretchy bind off method:
Step 1: Knit 2 stitches together, then place the resulting stitch back on your left hand needle.
Repeat step one until you have one stitch remaining. Break your yarn. Knot it. And weave in remaining yarn tails.
Update: This blanket takes about 7-8 skeins or 1,407 – 1,608 yards of PaintBox Yarns Simply Aron Yarn. I’ve used Sailor Blue for this version.
