Learning New Skills
No Time Like Quarantine to Learn New Skills Right?
My husband and I have been having some good, but tough conversations about our goals for the future and our family. We’ve been talking about what our individual goals are for the next five-ish years are. Some of mine are learning new skills.
You’ve probably seen by now that I’ve added sewing to my growing list of hobbies. I’m loving it! Before I had only ever been very beginner. But thanks to other bloggers, the wonderful world of YouTube and some epic friends of mine *cough cough Tara*, I’m growing so much here.
You can check out my latest post on Baby Bandanas here.
So while those are going great, I’m starting to think about adding them to my Etsy store. Exciting right!
Stick around for some exciting knitting announcements that have to do with my Etsy store as well. As soon as I can get my butt in gear and post them…
Learning New Skills
So yes! Learning new skills is going really well. The only downside is that I might be attempting to learn too many of these at the same time.
Sewing
This one is obvious and you already know about it because I’ve been posting about it here and on my Instagram. But, I wanted to include it because there are some updates. I worked with stretch jersey material and I didn’t want to stab myself in the eyeball with my sewing shears. So that was really exciting!
To do this I had to switch to a stretch needle, and try some new stitches on my sewing machine. It was a lot of fun and has given me more confidence. I’m going to try designing my own pattern here for another fun project for Fynn soon!!
I’ve also realized that I’m fiddling with the material when cutting it out so I’ve just ordered a rotary cutting tool and mat – and I’ll update you on that when said items arrive. Hold please!
Photography
Many moons ago, like literally many moons (years ago in fact), I purchased a Canon Rebel 2Ti. And I have since really learned how to do anything with it except for take pictures using the automatic focus. Then maybe edit them on my computer later. Thank you Canva and LightRoom app because, well my photography skills are lacking.
That being said, with a growing son and an expanding business, I’d like to take photos that are actually good. If you have any favorite photography for newbies drop some links or instructions/tips and tricks into the comments for me please!
Web Development
Hold up, does it count as web development if you’re using a content management tool with plugins? Anyway in the spirit of learning new things I am exploring the capabilities of adding an online store right here in my website! That means I won’t have to link out to places like Ravelry and LoveKnitting for you to purchase my patterns – and, drum roll please, I can start to offer other items as well!
YouTube
So I’m already on YouTube, but I’d like to start making better quality videos and uploading more frequently. That way, you know, the channel is something that you want to actually watch and that is helpful.
Learning how to use my camera is one more step in that direction as I’m not sure my old iPhone is up to snuff when it comes to video quality. I’ve also invested in a handy microphone to hopefully get better audio quality too! Maybe lighting is next…we’ll see.
