Knitting Went to the Dogs

The Story of My Recent Failed Attempt at a New Dog Sweater.

I’ve made a fair amount of large breed sweaters for dogs, and for charity using my dog as a model for fit and size.  Recently my dog had some lumps removed, leaving him shaved in spots. Combine the two and of course I’m going to try to knit him a sweater.

The good news was, I had one about half way done.  I just had gotten bored with it and set it aside for about a year.  Well, I found renewed inspiration and tackled it with gusto.  A few nights of my husband working and me binge knit-flixing with a bit of wine and I had the sweater done.

We had just finished decorating for Christmas and I couldn’t wait to try his new sweater on the pup.  With all the nervous excitement, I grabbed a few treats and went for it.  To face total let down.  The sweater was definitely miss-shapen and all wonky.  I sewed in some darts to try to cinch up the waist a bit, but it still looks like a horse blanket.

Knitting has gone to the Dogs Post - Knitting in the Park

…A very nice horse blanket…(anyone seen The Patriot? I’m cracking myself up over here).

Murphy doesn’t normally like wearing sweaters (I Know it’s hit and miss with dogs) and he doesn’t seem to mind this one any more than the others, but I can’t handle it.  I will knit him a new sweater for dogs, but I need a bit of a break…and some renewed patience.  That and someone to remind me to try it on him like ten more times!
