How to Crochet Cotton Face Scrubbies
A Free Tutorial from Knitting in the Park
Having gifts on hand is something with which I’ve become a bit obsessed. I love to have the chance to spontaneously brighten someone’s day. If I’m invited to someone’s house, bam! it’s a hostess gift. If we learn it’s someone’s birthday, boom! it’s a birthday gift. One of these gift items I like to stock are cotton face scrubbies.
If you’d rather knit wash cloths, here’s are two free patterns: Brick Wash Cloth and Andalusian Wash Cloth.
These little gifts are super fast to make, which means you can make a bunch of them at a time. Then, bundle some of them together. Tie a sweet little ribbon around them. And you’ve got the perfect little gift!
This tutorial is for a flower shaped face scrubbie – you can also use them for dishes and as washcloths for little ones.
Cotton Flower Face Scrubbie Tutorial
The first step in this tutorial is obviously to grab your gear. You’re going to need a bit of cotton yarn and a crochet hook. I’m using some bulk cotton yarn that I grabbed at Joann Fabrics way way back in the day.
Next, you’ll make a “Magic Circle” and chain three (this is a cinch-able “cast on” for crocheting in a circle. If you’re not sure how to do it you can google a tutorial until I post one here).
Make 19 Double Crochets into this circle. Cinch it tight. And close the loop by single crocheting into the chain three you made at the start of the Magic Circle.
Chain one, and single crochet into each stitch around the circle. Close the loop with a single crochet into the first chain 1.
Chain one, *Half Double Crochet into next stitch, work 2 half double crochets into next stitch* repeat this around the circle.
Chain one, skip one stitch, *[half double crochet, 3 double crochet, half double crochet] in next stitch, chain one, skip one stitch, single crochet in next stitch* repeat to the end of the round.
Knot yarn and break it. Weave in Yarn tails.
