Honeymoon Brews
Breweries we stopped by on our honeymoon!
We had a blast hiking and biking, oh and shopping for fiber on our honeymoon – but we also stopped by quite a few breweries!
We stopped at the Devil’s Backbone in Shenandoah but since I was sicky with food poisoning from a local sandwich shop I didn’t take any pictures there. If you’re in the area, they have a great complex with loads to do – even showers for through hikers! Their barbecue (it smelled really good – and Christian vouched that it was awesome).
Oskar Blues is one of my husband’s (Still really weird to say) favorite all time breweries. So of course we had to stop in here. Its a fabulous place with a large indoor space, great decor and a great covered outdoor patio. We sat outside and took in the weather along with the great beer! Everyone here is just relaxed, feeling the vibes and their marketing/decor show’s it! We snagged some food from the truck and had a wonderful evening. Murphy loved it and there were about three other dogs there so it was a great time for everyone! Seriously their food was named things like “The Dank Dog” (a normal hotdog but named after one of their beers).
On the inside of the building they have a merch store, which you access through an arch of their beer cans which was fun. And then they offer bike rides, kayaking and yoga followed by beer. There really was a lot to do that we should have planned better, so that we could have taken advantage of it all.
Then, on our last day in town, we actually extended our stay a day to go, we swung by the Sierra Nevada location just outside of town for their Spring-toberfest – when they tap their Oktoberfest beer as they’re halfway there. It was soooooo good. Unfortunately we found out about while we were down there so we couldn’t bring our lederhosen to really join in the celebration, but we did take in the music, partake of the food and Murphy may or may not appear in a promo video for the brewery location!
The event was packed so you had to ride a bus to get there – Murphy’s first bus ride. He loved it!! And so did we. It’s so great when dog people establish a business and make it so that other dog owners can come, bring their dog and just enjoy the whole experience.
They have an indoor restaurant, merch store, brewery and then outside they have a patio and also an outdoor bar/menu. Down from there is an amphitheater and ample places to order another beer. Thank God they don’t make you get tokens and take cash or card throughout the complex. This makes it so much easier to meander through their organic garden, play some corn hole and even make it down to their picnic area by the river.
I had even brought my knitting thinking we’d find a quiet spot – but there was too much going on to throw a few stitches…that and it was too hot to have it sitting on my lap. Working on new version of an old favorite. Will post more updates on the project and the pattern soon!
