Helen’s Sweater Re-Launch
New Name and New Yarn Weight
The pattern formerly known as short and sweet is now Helen’s Sweater. The initial yarn really caught my attention because it mimicked so many of the colors that I remember in my grandmother’s crocheted afghans. When I was knitting this a second time, I thought why not update the name when I update the pattern? My grandmother’s name is Helen so Short and Sweet Re-Launches as Helen’s Sweater.
What’s New:
I love the heavier weight yarn and the way that the sweater keeps its shape. But it is a bit hot and I don’t wear it as much as I thought I would. Last Christmas I picked up some really nice natural yarn intending to knit cable sweaters as gifts. Alas, I ran out of time and can’t let this beautiful yarn sit in a drawer any longer. So I picked a rich coffee color and started knitting.
Increasing the number of stitches with a bit of math to keep the same ratios resulted in a beautiful new version of the sweater that I already love and adore. Initially I thought I made it too short but after blocking it, the fit is perfect. The simplicity of this pattern though is in its simplicity. You can easily alter it to make it your own. Alter it to fit you better, or to give it a bit of a different shape.
What’s to Come?
I’m actually thinking of adding some embroidery to this sweater. I have extra of the main color, and a contrasting color. And I also have a large quantity of a third color. If I double up embroidery floss, that might also work as well. The thought is to maybe add some flowers along the front of the collar, and the hem of the sweater. I’m full of nervous excitement and really want to try this new knitting trend. My only fear is hurting this sweater which was such a joy to knit.

Side Note:
I would love to offer my sweaters in a wider range of sizing but I’m not quite sure how to scale them. If you are looking to help test patterns or can help me with your measurements together we can design this sweater in a more inclusive size.
