Fibrous Shower Gifts
When Your Friends Understand Your Fiber Addiction and Get You Fiber Themed Wedding Gifts
My aunt and cousin, my Maid of Honor, totally spoiled me with the most beautiful wedding shower that I could have ever imagined. I mean literally there was a catering staff member there to open the door for me, hand me a mimosa and served food so good that my mouth is watering just thinking about it. And almost every single one of the women in my life were there to love and support me in these final steps toward marriage.
Christian and I are terrible at these kinds of things – I mean making the wedding registry was torture because we hate asking for things. The people at Crate and Barrel and Target were really sweet and helped us through it, assuring us that people want to buy you gifts, you’re just helping them with suggestions of things that you could really use. So at the shower I received so many useful things – but there were two gifts that I never saw coming.
A Beautiful Blanket from Pittsburgh’s Irish Design Center
This store is one of my favorites in Pittsburgh. Located in Oakland, down the street from where I attended High School, is a magical little store that is filled to the bursting with beautiful things from Ireland. When we saw a bag from the Irish Design Center among the gifts, we were all trying to see what it was and whom it was from. It turns out that one my incredible aunts on my mom’s side (I have 5 total as my mom was one of 8 kids) gifted us the most beautiful blanket in soft blues and greens. I cannot do this gift justice with iPhone photos. It’s just that beautiful. We draped it over our handmade rocking chair from Christian’s mom and bought a planter for my lemon plant just because it matched the blanket so well. And it’s all sitting next to the tulips I bought in Amsterdam since they will be a part of my wedding bouquet. This corner of the house is one my favorites!
And a Handmade Yarn Bowl
When I was little, my parents built a cabin in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania and would drive us there on the weekends so that we can play and explore the woods, learn to ski and it was the best gift that I could have ever asked for – as it is one that keeps on giving. Not only was it an incredible place, here we were surrounded by their friends, phenomenal people who helped to raise me. Two of these wonderful women were at my shower and gave us a combined gift. While I’m sure Christian is more excited about the Instant Pot (which literally is every kitchen cooking device combined into one), I am in love with the beautiful yarn bowl. It actually matches the blanket that I just showed you – but that’s not why I love it. This was such a sweet and thoughtful gift, made by the hands of a local artist, and given with love. It’s beautiful!
