The Ferryman Hat Gets a Revamp
Download the Ferryman in the New Pattern Format
This hat has been recently updated and copied into my newer pattern format. The Ferryman is an old standby. It’s one of my husband’s favorite hats. In fact, it’s difficult for me to get this one away from him long enough to pop it into the washing machine and de-fuzz it.
My husband is a persnickety guy. He prefers the less popular cables to the traditional twists and braided ones. Because of his preference, it sets up for a higher stitch count for the pattern repeats. This specific pattern uses an 18 stitch repeat. It’s available in two sizes Small/Medium, and Large.
The Ferryman Knit Cap is has set sail and is now available on Etsy and Ravelry.
Why do I love this hat so much?
The type of cable work used in this hat, looks really intricate, and interesting. But there’s a secret to it…as long as you have a cable needle, DPN or second circular needle, and can move stitches to the front or back of your work, you can knit this hat! Yes there are some other skills like Knitting two stitches together, and slip, slip knitting other stitches to form the crown of the hat, but those are also pretty standard for just about any hat you’ll knit. I’ll be working on some additional tutorials for those skills and for cables soon as well.
The Ferryman Knit Cap also looks great on just about anyone – the cables narrow a bit as they get towards the top of the hat, tapering the shape and making it look polished. Even the guys with the larger heads in my family are finding that they “look good” in the hat.
You always have the option of spiffing the hat up a bit with a pompom or a tassel per the design aesthetic of your intended recipient as well.
