What Makes This Free Blanket Pattern so Great?
You can whip it up in a hurry but not feel like you’re skimping on a gift. Not all that long two bundles of joy were adopted into our family. So I needed to make two matching but not identical blankets. But, blankets can be quite time consuming. To make sure that these sweet boys didn’t miss out on a handmade baby blanket, I came up with the Double Seed Stitch Baby Blanket pattern.

What Is Double Seed Stitch?
Double seed stitch is a beautiful and delicate stitch that is easy to work. It’s a simple combination of knit and purl stitches that creates a wonderful texture. The knit and purl stitch are alternated over four rows. Double Seed Stitch is also known as Moss Stitch.
Double Seed Stitch Blanket Pattern Details:
This knitting pattern is for a blanket between 33 and 35 inches wide and tall. If you need or want a different size blanket, you can simply add stitches to the middle portion and knit a longer blanket. Just be sure to buy enough yarn in the same colorway.
Yarn:
The yarn for this baby blanket is carefully chosen as well. Premier Anti-pilling yarn is baby approved. It’s soft and snuggly, machine washable and dryer safe (on low temps and gentle settings). And because it’s anti-pilling you won’t have to worry about fuzz building up.
Fuzz on any knitted item is caused by fiber breakdown over time. When that fuzz gathers together in a felted like layer on top of your knitting, that’s known as pilling. Premier anti-pilling yarn is certified up to over 300 washes so you don’t have to worry about the yarn breaking down anytime soon. The first blanket I made my niece was with soft but very fuzzy yarn and she ended up pulling the fuzz off and trying to eat it.

The yarn also holds its shape well and has great stitch definition, even in the marls and heathers. You can stretch and wrap and tuck this blanket in any way you need to.
Additional Yarn Options:
Use three to four skeins of Heartland by LionBrand Yarns, two skeins of Caron Simply Soft, or substitute anything in a worsted weight from your stash. These are the yarns that I like to keep in my stash.
Needles:
You’ll need one US size 8 knitting needle. For blankets and bulkier projects I recommend using a circular knitting needle. Straight needles will work but the weight of the blanket can tire our your wrists. Circular needles keep this bulk centered and allow you to hold it with both hands.
In addition to the actual knitting needle, you’ll need a tapestry or darning needle to sew in your yarn tails. With four skeins of yarn there are just a few in this project.
Other Notions:
Stitch markers to denote the border sections are very helpful tools. You can buy these, but you can also tie loops of spare thread or yarn around your needle. This doesn’t fully take the place of counting your stitches or pattern repeats but it goes a long way in helping avoid mistakes which can cost you time.

Love it!! Beautiful pattern as usual. As soon as I’m done making a blanket for Harper, I’m going to be trying some of your patterns I been loving (including this one!) What color of the Premier did you use for this blanket?
Maggie
It’s Premier Everyday Anti-pilling in “oat heather”

Hi!! I’m expecting my first grandchild in November and this pattern is just perfect! Thank you for so much for offering it. However, I cannot seem to receive the email with the download. I’ve added my name to the list twice and nothing has happened. Whenever you get a chance just let me know if there’s a fix for this. Again thank you for the offer!

Karen,
I’ve sent the patterns to everyone who requested them. Are you able to check your spam filter as the pattern will come through as an attachment? Also, I’ve had some emails bounce because of spelling errors. If the pattern isn’t in your spam we can try the form again.
