Clara Cowl
Learn to Knit the Clara Cowl
Cowls are the perfect gift to knit: they’re fun and functional. The Clara Cowl is no different! Knit this version, or put together your own perfect color combination. (This cowl would look darling in a fade or gradient!). This sweet cotton cowl is the softest thing I have ever knit. The colors are beautiful and really pop, while the chevrons add a bit of flair. This pattern is worked in the round, meaning it’s one long tube, sewn together at the end using kitchener stitch.
It might look like there was a lot of sewing/weaving in yarn tails in this pattern, but as the scarf is worked in the round and then joined to create an infinity scarf, all of your yarn tails are contained on the inside.
Rather than breaking the yarn at each color change, I simply carried the yarn up the work using a “float”. The only downside here is having to untangle your different strands of the different colors as you knit. If you ask me though, this beats sewing in countless yarn tails.
To Knit the Clara Cowl, You’ll need:
Yarn: 8 skeins total, two colors of each of the following in Knit Picks Comfy Sport yarn which is a pima cotton and acrylic blend. (you’ll need about 1 and a half skeins of each of the four colors).
Main Color (MC): Whisker
Color B (CB): White
Color C (CC): Flamingo
Color D (CD): Peony
Or between 720 and 816 yards of sport weight yarn.
Needle: US Size 4, or 3.5mm circular needle. Note, for this number of stitches, you don’t want them to be too stretched on your needle or your floats will be too long. I used a 16 inch circular needle.
Stitch Marker
Darning Needle to sew in ends.
