Chevron Hat for Babies
A new version of the hat previously designed for men, the Chevron Hat for Babies is too sweet.
If you’ve been following along with the blog, you might have seen a few baby hats pop up. This is the latest in a series and I have totally fallen in love. And it’s not hard to see why. The Chevron Hat for Babies is so much fun to knit with simple cables that are strategically placed to form soft chevrons.
This Chevron Hat for Babies is modeled after the original Chevron Hat that I designed for my husband. In this version for babies, I have moved the chevron cables much closer together. The result was so lovely that I ended up making a new hat for my husband.

The Chevron Hat Looks Great on Babies!
After knitting two of these hats, I’m absolutely over the moon with how the Chevron Hat for Babies looks on them. With or without the pompom is simply adorable.
The more I knit hats for pint sized people, the more I’m starting to realize that the more simple the hat, the better it looks. There isn’t a lot of room on their little heads, so when you put a lot of different elements into the hat it can get a bit busy. Simple chunky cables, like these chevrons are perfect.
Yarn for the Chevron Hat for Babies
I’ve knit two of these hats now. Worsted weight yarn is perfect for these hats. Yes, there are a wide arrays of what is classified as “worsted” but it should work as long as you use the right needle size.
The blue hat in the photos is knitted using PaintBox Yarns, and the orange is made using Caron Simply Soft. Either of these yarns are a great option because they are machine washable. I’ve made my pompoms detachable to preserve the ability to toss these hats in the wash. Premier also makes a soft anti-pilling yarn that is machine washable and would be great option.
