Cables A Go Go!
Braids and Twists Abound in this Sweet Hat Pattern
The Cables A Go Go hat is just what it sounds like – a fun hat full of texture created by knitting with cables. Braided cables are fun and relatively easy to work with as you only have two directions in which you are moving the stitches, and they repeat expectedly every so many rows. They are a great next step for someone that has just getting started with cable knitting and this hat is a fun take on braided cables.
In this pattern, you’ll combine the fun of braided cables, in a short term project (rather than knitting say a scarf or infinity scarf), meaning you’ll also have the satisfaction of finishing a project quickly – which is a great thing for any knitter, especially if you are in a bit of a slump/working on some larger or lengthier patterns.
This pattern is written out – meaning you do not have to be able to read charts in order to be able to knit this hat. With simple instructions for the twisted stitch and the braid, you can will have a beautiful braided beanie in no time! The Cables A Go Go is a great hat to knit whether you are trying your first braid or twist, or you’re a seasoned knitter. I like the look of braided cables, but the Cables A Go Go hat has just a little bit more that, in my mind, makes it special.
This pattern as it stands is perfect for one skein of yarn using Big Twist, a number four or medium weight yarn. The hat takes about 6-8 hours if you are moderate to advanced knitter. This pattern now consists of a Small and Medium size as well. When I originally posted the pattern for free, it only was for the small sized head.
I hope to post some other variations for warmer versions soon!
