The Secret for Free Moving Boxes from Knitting in the Park

Boxes, Boxes, Boxes

As far as the eye can see…in our apartment

We have officially started packing.  Well, my Fiancé is doing most of the packing while I work – I guess that’s the benefit of a nursing schedule right? The move is in full swing as we prepare to close on Monday! We knew that we had a good bit to pack up but the idea of paying for boxes didn’t enthuse us, so we started thinking about other options.  One of them was to swing by a local business and ask if we could have some of their excess boxes.  Boy did we hit the jackpot.

Not sure how this works in other states whose local state government doesn’t hold liquor sales hostage, but in PA most State Stores save their boxes in hopes that someone might be able to use them.  And use them we are.  So far we’ve filled my Jeep Compass up about three times over in Liquor/wine bottle boxes.  They’re small, which makes them useful because you don’t run the risk of packing so much into a box that you (or I) can’t lift it.  Their size also helps you keep hyper organized because you can group smaller amounts of stuff together and literally plan out closets shelf by shelf, if your’e into that.

But the best thing about them is probably their sturdiness.  They are meant to ship glass bottles in, after all.  So we’ve filled up untold amounts of free boxes in preparation for this move.  We obviously cannot wait to be in our new house but there is still a lot of work to do.

Normally I’d be super bummed that it is this warm out in November/December, but the thought of moving in the cold doesn’t sound as fun as actually playing in it.  So ski season can wait just a bit for us this year.  I do hope that it gets cold soon after we move though, I can’t wait to use the TWO wood burning fireplaces in our new home!  Curling up in front of the fire, with a glass of wine or some hot tea, with your WIP.  Sounds fabulous doesn’t it?

Go Grab Some Boxes!

So if you’re in need of some additional storage, could use some boxes to get organized or even to bring presents to your loved ones’ houses this Christmas, make sure to swing by your local State Store and grab some!

I’m hoping to post a free pattern tomorrow for Free Pattern Friday – but with the chaos, it might get pushed until Saturday.
