Basketweave Baby Blanket

A Free Knitting Pattern for Babies

A dear friend is expecting their first child, so of course I had to knit a baby blanket. And like my other baby knitting patterns, this one is also free to download. If you are looking for a fast, fun, and functional baby gift, then the Basketweave Baby Blanket is perfect!

The Basketweave Baby Blanket is a great unisex pattern. And the combination of knit and purl stitches make this one a fan favorite. Knit a beautiful blanket without the complexities of charts, lace, or cables. Plus the lack of holes in this blanket also mean that it is safe for little hands.

What You’ll Need to Knit the Basketweave Baby Blanket

To knit this pattern as it is written, you’ll need 1,005 – 1,206 yards of worsted weight yarn. I said as it is written because you can easily customize this blanket to fit your needs. Make it smaller for dolls, or bigger for beds! Basketweave is such a versatile pattern making it just as great for big kids going off to college as it is for bitty babes.

I like to keep my knitting tight, especially when it’s intended for babies. So I size down my knitting needles. This pattern calls for a US Size 7 knitting needle. And circulars are great for blankets! I’ve knit this blanket in Paintbox Yarn. This color way isn’t sold anymore but the Kingfisher color is pretty close!

Additionally, I recommend four stitch markers. This will help mark off the outer garter stitch border, and the inner stockinette border.
