Baby Esme Knitting Pattern

A Buttery Soft Baby Hat

A few years ago, I was playing around with a buttery soft yarn that I picked up from Joann Fabrics. The yarn was a bit bulkier than I typically tend to use for hats so it was a fun project. At the time it was Buttercream Luxe Yarns in Angel Hair. I was looking to replace it in my stash and found a pink angel hair from Knit and Crochet instead. Both are super soft and perfect for knitting for littles! Being a few weeks away from our new baby making her debut, I started working on the Baby Esme Knitting Pattern.

The Esme:

You can find the adult version here. It contains two different sizes (small and large). The limited size range is based on the size of the cable section. Its a super soft winter hat with just the right amount of detail. When designing the Esme, I really walked the thin line between too much visual element and just the right amount. The yarn is so beautiful that I didn’t want the hat design to take away from the yarn, or the other way around.

You’ll need one skein of yarn and a US Size 8 knitting needle. You can use Double Pointed Needles if you prefer – the choice is up to you. This yarn is a bit fluffy and fuzzy making it a bit difficult to seam so I would try to knit this one in the round rather than flat.

I opt for a pompom on almost all of my hats and I make them myself. For this you can find a tutorial here. It sounds a lot harder than it is, like most new skills in knitting!
