Avery Hat Version 2

Today I’m relaunching one of my favorite hat patterns with an updated pattern. The Avery Hat was initially Knitted as a hat for my youngest niece. It’s a super fun pattern to knit and you settle into a rhythm as you work. The Avery Hat Version 2 is just a slight variation in the pattern that makes a striking difference.

What’s so great about the Avery Hat?

This hat pattern utilizes a simple cabling technique and purl stitches to create a beautiful hat. The cabling looks delicate and detailed, without super complicated stitching. If you can cable, you can knit this hat. Heck, I write everything out in the pattern instructions so that even if you can’t cable, you can knit this hat.

The Avery and the Avery Version 2 both have sizing from babies to adult larges. You can literally knit this hat for everyone. Which is great! It’s so fun to knit that you’ll want to make this hat for everyone. And me relaunching the pattern now, means that you have loads and loads of time to make it for everyone! Or, if you live in the Northeast like me, you can knit it in time for the third time spring turns back into winter…

More About the Avery Version 2

The gauge for this hat is perfect for the really popular synthetic worsted weight yarns like Lion Brand and Caron. You could adjust it for the thicker yarns like Paintbox whose aran weight is really like a step up from the typical worsted weights I’m used to. It’s so different that I had to look up whether worsted and aran were in fact different weights rather than different names.

In the first version of the pattern, the cables touch but don’t cross over one another. This forms diamond shapes. In this version two pattern, the diamond all cross over or under one another. It looks so good! (If I do say so myself). That’s about it in terms of the differences in the pattern.

As always, you have the option to put a pompom or tassel, or leave the hat unadorned. Personally, I love a good oversized pompom!
