About Maggie and her Knitting in the Park

Knitting in the Park is a little space dedicated to sharing about my hobbies, my passions, and the crazy journey of buying our first home, oh and getting married.

I’m a marketing specialist by trade and work a number of different clients that are all awesome and challenge me to grow in new ways every day.  While I have to be professional on other online platforms, this is my little space to let my hair down, pick up my needles and share my thoughts – no matter how frightening that might be to some of those who know me.

Who am I?

Our First Picture at the Ranch Home

Well, I’m a Pittsburgher – that should give you a good bit start.  No, I don’t say “yinz” unless on purpose, but I will use the word joyously if the situation calls for it.

I’ve been knitting for over five years now, probably more if I count the casual learning period after college but let’s be honest, I don’t want to go back to those days.

I’m now married to a wonderful man and together we are planned on our wedding, around the whole first time home buyer process. We’ve met some wonderful people along the way, and learned a lot – which you can be sure will be shared on the blog.

Together, my Husband and I have a Black Labrador named Murphy.  He’s pretty much the goofiest dog I have ever met.  We probably, definitely, are to blame for some of it – but we wouldn’t have it any other way.  You’ll be seeing a lot of him on the blog as well.

Why the Park?

We love the outdoors and wanted to be close to one of Pittsburgh’s many beautiful recreation spots.  With loads of trails, a five mile lake loops and many 25 mile an hour roads to ride, we knew that we wanted to move near North Park.

Looking for a starter home in this area can get pretty competitive and homes go fast.  My Husband and I were lucky to find one that ticked almost all of our boxes, so we made our offer.  I’ll skip over the details of the home buying process and fast forward to us living in and loving our new home.  Although, it took a good bit of work to get this home to where we wanted it to be.  Check out the posts on the blog to see what we did to update the house and make it our own.

In the future we hope to purchase some paddle boards or kayaks for the lake and will be making frequent stops at the dog park to burn off Murphy’s crazy amounts of energy.   Keep an eye out for more about the park, which I’ll be featuring here, on the blog.

Why share any of this at all?

Every time I meet someone who knits, there is an instant connection and a shared experience.  I’d like to meet more people who knit, share patterns and stories, to share what I’ve learned and maybe pay it forward a bit. I want to learn more about what got them into knitting, or home making, or any of our talents and find out what they love about these wonderful past times.

I’m a big proponent of sharing your Time, Talent and Treasure.  Time and Talent will be definitely shared in this space and I give of my “treasure” to local animal shelters.  Before this space, I ran a charitable project called Fibers for Fido.  It’s on hold for the most part but I hope to be picking it back up after connecting with more knitters and crafters.

What I’m trying to say is that this site is another way for me to share and connect – which is really what drives many of us crafters.

Paid Patterns

While I’d love to give everything away for free, I do offer paid pattern, the links to which you’ll find on this site.  You can buy them on Etsy, LoveKnitting or Ravelry.  Why offer paid patterns? The money from these patterns is put directly back into this site and it’s efforts to connect, share and grow with other creatives.  It helps me to source new yarns, learn new techniques and run some promotions.  I hope to offer more in the near future, which I’ll share more about soon!

Thank you for stopping by Knitting in the Park – I hope I’ll see you often!
