A Look Back
Feeling a bit nostalgic, I took a look back at how far my knitting has come
Knitting has brought me so much – joy, healing, quiet moments in a storm. I’ve spent a lot of hours working on different projects, learning new skills, and even ripping out old projects. After connecting with so many knitters, I got a bit nostalgic. So I decided to take a look back at where I was when I first started this lifelong passion.
Like many knitters, I started out with scarves. I loved picking out new yarns but was stuck in garter stitch for a while. So I started to devise other ways to spruce up this simple pattern.
I loved this yarn but was really looking to try something new. Rather than learn a new stitch, I sewed on some buttons and a tiny bow…
Pardon the picture quality. I believe this was the same brand of yarn – Lion Brand if memory serves me correctly. Here I used my darning needle to thread some orange ribbon through. Orange was one of the colors in the scarf. Its hard to see but there are also some green flower beads sewn into this one.
This one cracks me up. I started experimenting with color changes but wasn’t a fan of sewing in the ends. At this point, I wasn’t even really sure how to do it correctly so that it wouldn’t show. In this simple little scarf I tried tying the ends into little bows!
Looking back at these makes me crack up and keeps me humble, mindful that knitting is a constant learning process. It’s been a joy to look back to the start and see what first brought me joy. Now it’s time to pick back up the baby blanket, shawl, and much more intricate scarf that I have as current works in progress.
If you’re new to knitting, I hope this site helps you gain the confidence and the know-how to explore your new found passion and learn new skills!
